Recently while looking for a new bed, we tried a Memory Foam bed at the shop. The shop advertised it as a whole new thing, so we were interested to try it out. In the test setup at the shop, they allowed us to stay for one hour in a darkroom, so it was possible to get a feeling for the mattress. Memory Foam is a popular term for “visco elastic polyurethane foam“. The memory part means that it “remembers” your shape. The trick is that the warmer the foam gets, the softer it becomes. It is soft, and follows your shape, while deeper down, it is colder, and harder. Another exciting part of this material is that it was developed by NASA to support space travel - how cool is that to sleep in! Our trial at the local shop was beyond all expectations. Compared to our old spring-mattress bed, the memory foam bed feels like it is folding around your body, and you get full relaxation without the need to turn around so often to compensate for sore muscles. We ended up buying a memory foam mattress, and we are still very happy with it.
